THE METRO CHAMBER ADVOCATES FOR A STRONG REGIONAL CENTER because we believe this will advance the entire region’s economy

Vibrant regional centers are recognized at the heart of all world-class regions.  It is what helps make them an exciting place to live, work, play, visit and raise a family.  The Metro Chamber will advocate for our regional center to provide unparalleled business, entertainment, education, medical and residential opportunities in an attractive, clean, safe, friendly and exciting environment while still integrating in a productively meaningful way city and state government.
Regional Need for a Sports & Entertainment Facility  |  Comtock's Q&A with Matt Mahood

After the Indianapolis Study Mission, the Metro Chamber encouraged discussions among local elected officials, representatives of Maloof Sports and Entertainment and others to develop a proposal to fund a new sports and entertainment facility to replace ARCO Arena.
Indianapolis Study Mission Report

These discussions led to a proposal by the Sacramento County board of supervisors to place a half cent sales tax before Sacramento County voters to fund a sports and entertainment facility on the UP Railyards and proved additional funding to support local civic improvements. Metro Chamber staff and volunteer leaders helped convene a campaign structure to support Measures Q & R, just as the Metro Chamber had done to support the Los Rios bond, Measures G & H to protect local government revenues and Measure A, extending Sacramento County’s half-cent sales tax for transportation.

While measures Q & R did not pass the test with voters in November 2006, the campaign effort raised awareness of the need to replace ARCO Arena for events and conventions as well as professional basketball. A greater number of leaders and residents now better understand the benefits of developing the UP Railyard and of locating a sports and entertainment facility on the site. The Metro Chamber was widely recognized for its leadership on this critical issue.

Share the Vision, a non-profit coalition was formed to continue to develop and promote the concept of a new sports and entertainment facility on the UP Railyards, including research on the project’s specific economic development benefits. Metro Chamber staff and volunteer leaders have the opportunity to continue a leadership role in this issue through the coalition, participation within Partnership for Prosperity and perhaps consolidate and communicate findings from Metro Chamber Study Missions with respect to he benefits of a downtown sports and entertainment facility.
