The Sacramento Youth Symphony announces the receipt of a generous scholarship grant from the Amateur Chamber Music Players, Inc., in support of the 2007 Summer Chamber Music Workshop, July 9-13 & July 16-22. The Amateur Chamber Music Players, Inc. is an organization established in 1993 with the goal of fostering participatory classical chamber music by people of all ages & skill levels. Through its directories, publications, & other activities, ACMP encourages making music for the love of it. The Summer Chamber Music Workshop is open to students of all musical backgrounds, beginning with a one-week, half-day preparatory program that is suitable for string students ages 7-12. This program offers a technique class, small ensemble coaching & a string orchestra rehersals. A mentoring program will be in place for advanced students who will spend the morning assisting with the preparatory program & the afternoons in side-by-side sight-reading sessions with faculty artists. Week one will be held at St Anthony Church of Florin Rd., Sac. More advanced students can participate in the second week, which will be held at the UC Davis Dept. of Music. This program is suitable for primary musical instrument. Students are grouped into trios, quartets & quintets according to age & musical proficiency. These groups are coached in rehearsal & performance techniques & are taught how to work independently on musical interprettion & general ensemble playing. There are three string orchestra levels, with placement determined by age & skill level. All students have the opportunity to perform with their chamber groups & in the festive "Concert in the Courtyard." Over $2000 in scholarships & tuition assistance is available.
